Maya has been selected to receive the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education’s (CAED) 2023 Award for Excellence for Outstanding Young Environmental Leadership! The CAEE awards selection committee is very impressed with the caliber of her work.
Maya is certainly a positive role model for other youth in the state. She has demonstrated innovation and creativity in her approach to community engagement. Her TEDx presentation has reached beyond the local community and to date has 3.8K views. In February of this year, she presented to environmental educators at the DCSD Sustainability Green University event at the ACC Sturm Collaboration Campus. In her presentation, Thinking Green, Maya provided detailed information on recycling statistics and information regarding microplastics. She also provided numerous tips on how to Reduce, Reuse, and Rethink plastic consumption. Maya's presentation impacted DCSD teachers so much that she has been asked to do classroom presentations across the school district. We are so proud of Maya's work and her passion to make a difference in her community and in the lives of others.
Maya's award will be presented at CAEE’s Annual Awards Celebration Event, which will be held in conjunction with this year’s Advancing Environmental Education Conference at the new CSU Spur Campus in Denver. The awards presentation will take place on Friday, September 29th, 2023 at 4:00pm followed by a reception at 5:00pm.
