Summary : The Calendar Committee, consisting of District leaders, teachers, classified staff members, and parents developed four conventional calendar options for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years. A survey was distributed to staff and parents of neighborhood schools, garnering 10,713 responses with an 82% completion rate. Additionally, feedback was collected from the Student Advisory Group.

On April 18, 2024, the Calendar Committee presented their findings to the District Accountability Committee. Based on the feedback received, the District Accountability Committee recommends that the Board of Education approve the following calendar options for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years:

For the 2025-2026 DCSD Conventional Calendar:
Student Start Date: Wednesday, August 13, 2025
1 Week Fall Break / 1 Week Thanksgiving Break
Students' Last Day: Friday, May 29, 2026
For the 2026-2027 DCSD Conventional Calendar:
Student Start Date: Wednesday, August 12, 2026
1 Week Fall Break / 1 Week Thanksgiving Break
Students' Last Day: Friday, May 27, 2027

Applicable Statutes and Policies
C.R.S. 22-32-109 (B). Board of Education - specific duties.
Prior to the beginning of the school year, each district shall provide for the adoption of a district calendar which is applicable to all schools within the district. The district calendar or individual school calendars may be adopted by the board of education, the district administration, the school administration, or any combination thereof. A copy of the calendar shall be provided to the parents or guardians of all children enrolled in schools within the district. Such a calendar shall include the dates for all staff in-service programs scheduled for the school year. The board, district administration, or school administration shall allow for public input from parents and teachers prior to scheduling the dates for staff in-service program.

DCSD Policy IC/ICA - The school district calendar for the subsequent school year shall be prepared by the Superintendent and presented for Board of Education approval not later than November 1 of each year. The number of days of planned teacher-student instruction and of teacher-student contact shall meet or exceed the requirements of state law and shall include a sufficient number of days to allow the Superintendent flexibility in preparing a calendar that supports the district’s educational objectives, including how best to address the needs of all students to enable them to meet or exceed state and district content standards. Insofar as possible, these calendars shall meet the desires of the community and staff.
